Oh Geo, I share your ambivalence about this grossy over-hyped establishment. It seems that when you produce a cookbook it qualifies you to become smug, complacent and condescending towards your guests. I ate there with two of my friends on a Saturday night. We knew it would be busy and duly accepted the inevidible wait for service and food. No complaints there. But the noise was unbelievable (all those hard, some would say sleek/modern surfaces) and after a while I resigned myself to sitting in silence instead of attempting to hear or be heard above the deafening racket. To make matters worse, when our food finally arrived, not everyone was served at the same time, in fact, main courses were finished by some before food even arrived for others. At one point I asked a staff member when a very late ordered main course would arrive, only to be told (sardonicly), "If you were familiar with asian dining you would know that meals arrive one at a time to allow for sharing". I said nothing - what I should have said is, "Hey you stuck up cow, I have been dining on asian cuisine for more than 20 years, both in Australia and Asia. Don't try to justify crap service with the Blue Ginger zen of dining routine". By the end of the meal, we coundn't wait to get out of this hell hole and vowed never to return. (food was OK, but nothing special) |
