Smart memory - Transhuman enabling tech?
Posted by toby on 1st June 2004 at 22:41:09
Introducing Steve Richfield, who has just de-lurked on comp.arch.arithmetic to lead a plausible crusade to revise venerable IEEE 754 with several neglected facilities. But the really exciting idea was buried in the thread: A massively parallel processor, fabricated with conventional memory process, and no more expensive to make. He calls it smart memory and, if he attracts the right kind of encouragement (HPC community?) we should be hearing a lot more about it.
